Creating Your Outdoor Or Indoor Living Oasis
WHY TEAK?

Teak has the greatest ability of any wood to withstand the elements.  Due to the oil and rubber found naturally in the wood, it has the ability to resist splintering, warping and rotting. That is why it is the preferred choice for boats, aircraft carriers and our furniture!

IS THIS FURNITURE FOR OUTDOORS?

YES - Teakwood in it's natural unfinished state appears with a blonde natural finish.  The furniture will turn a soft dove gray when left outdoors.  The wood will expand naturally when left outdoors, so you may notice slight “ checking ” over time. This has no effect on the stability or structural integrity of the furniture.  Water spots or other discoloration may also occur, but will fade into a uniform dove gray color.  You may wish to cover the extension table in Northern winters, or take indoors.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE

All Ocean One Teak pieces come in natural teak color.  They will naturally grey over time if left in the sun.  Only a yearly cleaning with mild soap and water is necessary.  A Scotch Brite pad, 210-grit sandpaper, or 0000 steel wool can smooth out the surface if the grain comes up.  Do not power wash your Teak furniture, as this can ruin the grain. Bird droppings, sap or food stains can be treated with spot remover or sanded out.

Cleaning

For cleaning, use a mild detergent and a soft bristle brush.  Rinse the entire piece. To restore the original blonde color, use a solution of four parts detergent and one part bleach.  For grease or other stains we recommend using teak cleaner.  We do not recommend painting any of the teak furniture.  For a minimal 5% charge, you can choose to have your furniture oiled to give it a darker color and to bring out the grain of the wood.  Repeated application with UV protection oil will keep it this color in the outdoors.  The oil does not alter the integrity of the wood-only giving it a beautiful color.

COLORING, OILING OR STAINING YOUR TEAK FURNITURE

Teak “protects” itself naturally, so no oiling or staining is necessary. In fact, if you have a stone or weathered deck, and/or a cedar roof, silver teak would actually look better and more natural than oiled.  Oiling/staining for outdoor use will need to be repeated periodically depending on your degree of sun exposure. If you decide to oil or stain your teak, it will need to be re-oiled or stained BEFORE the teak begins to silver.  You must always clean the teak prior to re-oiling or staining, so as not to trap any dirt in the grain.  The teak must then be left to dry for 24-48 hours after being wet before re-oiling or staining.

Ocean One Teak is not responsible for the effects of the environment on your teak furniture or oiling/staining of your teak furniture.

You may wish to bring out the beautiful golden brown tone of the teak.  This can be accomplished in a variety of ways, depending on the sun exposure your Teak will receive.  (The UV rays of the sun remove the oil from your teak and turn it silver).  When using furniture for inside use, covered, screened in porches, or gazebos with little or no sun exposure, and you wish to have the darker brown look, we recommend only specialized Teak oil.  These products can be purchased through Ocean One Teakwood.

CHECKING

All wood, even Teak, may develop slight cracks (checking) on the end grain of the arms, legs, etc. due to expansion and contraction of the wood.  This is natural.  Eventually, the grain will even out.  This has not effect on the stability or structured integrity of the piece.  Water spots or other discoloration may occur, but will fade into a uniform silver color over time.

Following our simple maintenance plan can ensure you many years of enjoyment from your Teak furniture…even if it is subjected to the harshest of climates.
